The YCCI will fund 3-5 junior faculty applications for clinical and translational research pilot projects each year.
These pilot research awards should be directed at accumulating preliminary clinical and translational research data in adults and/or children that can be used for larger, longer-term applications to NIH and other peer-reviewed funding agencies. Projects may also be directed at improving clinical study design, clinical research ethics, and informatics.
This award is specifically for junior faculty considering a career in clinical and translational research. Only junior faculty who are at an early stage of their career (assistant professor or equivalent) and who do not currently hold independent ROl or equivalent support will be eligible for this award.
Grants will be given for one year in the amount of $20,000-25,000 and depending on progress, the project may be renewed for a second year. Criteria for selection include innovation, recognition of clinical opportunities, strong basic science behind the project, and ultimate translation to the community to benefit human beings.
