Community Alliance for Research & Engagement (CARE)
The Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE) was established in spring 2007 as an integral component of the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI). A goal of YCCI is to translate research from “bench to bedside”; the Alliance will help to take that one step further -- translating research from “bedside to community.”
The establishment of CARE at the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation provides an unprecedented opportunity to foster rigorous community-based research and to translate findings of scientific breakthrough and discovery to enhance health care. More on CARE mission and background...
Current CARE Activities
- New Haven Childhood Obesity Summit: Translating Research to Action. The first New Haven Childhood Obesity Summit was held on Thursday, May 22, 2008. The Greater New Haven Leadership Class of 2008 hosted the summit, which was co-sponsored by CARE along with colleagues at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, Anthem, and Yale New Haven Hospital. Click here to see our latest newsletter and here to see our research briefs on childhood obesity, which we released at the summit.

- Going on now! CARE is partnering with the Yale School of Public Health to offer an exciting series, “Milestones in Public Health Grand Rounds: Health Disparities—the Challenge of the New Millennium.” All talks in this series highlight how differences in various health issues affect our community. A free lunch and discussion with the featured speaker follows each lecture. The first talk in this series was held in February. More are planned for this spring and fall. Click here for more information.

The talk, entitled, “Am I Too Young to Have a Heart Attack?” included an open discussion with community members who had a chance to ask Dr. Lee questions about keeping our hearts healthy. At this event, CARE released two research briefs about heart health (read them here!) and its second newsletter, CARE Perspectives, which also features heart health (click here to read our latest newsletter).
