Timothy Quan, MD

Timothy Quan, MD

Assistant Professor, Internal Medicine (Rheumatology)

Mentors

Joe Craft, MD; Richard Bucala, MD, PhD

Background

Dr. Quan is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine (Rheumatology).  He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate.  He completed his residency (Primary Care) and two fellowships (Rheumatology) in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University.  Prior to his current position, Dr. Quan was an Instructor with the section of Rheumatology in the department of Internal Medicine.  He plans a career as a clinician-scientist and hopes to gain a better understanding of collagen production by dendritic cells to provide new insight into the mechanisms bridging autoimmunity with fibrosis.

Project Summary

Dr. Quan’s project, The Role of Dendritic Cells in Interstitial Lung Disease Associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis, tests a new model which examines fibrosis in the context of well known inflammatory cells, myeloid dendritic cells (mDC), that may link inflammation to fibrosis.  Myeloid dendritic cells promote fibrosis by producing collagen and are thus key players in interstitial lung disease associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
