Dr. Volkmar is currently Principal Investigator for three program project grants focused on autism including both STAART (Studies to Advance Autism Research and Treatment) and CPEA (Collaborative Program of Excellence in Autism) Centers. He is an internationally recognized expert on autism and related disorders and was the principal author of the current diagnostic system for autism used in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Volkmar is editor of the Journal of Autism and has been an associate editor of that journal as well as of the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. He has been the recipient of various federal grants including a research career development award and has served as mentor for 15 pre and postdoctoral fellows. He currently is serving as mentor for two trainees with K23 awards.
