Dr. Leaderer is Professor of Epidemiology & Public Health, Professor of Forestry & Environmental Studies and Fellow at the John B. Pierce Foundation. He is Co-Director of the Yale Center for Perinatal, Pediatric, and Environmental Epidemiology. Dr. Leaderer's research interests are in the area of assessing exposures to air contaminants and the health impact resulting from those exposures in both controlled human and epidemiological studies. He has made a substantial contribution in characterizing the physical and chemical nature and spatial and temporal distribution of air contaminants in both the outdoor and indoor air. Additionally, Dr. Leaderer has contributed, through both environmental chamber and the largest sick building study (Library of Congress and U.S. EPA sick building study), to understanding the role of indoor air quality on building occupant comfort and irritation. Dr. Leaderer has served as a mentor for more than 20 individuals at the pre- and postdoctoral level, some of whom have gone on to be NIH-funded researchers. Dr. Leaderer is currently the Principal Investigator on three large NIH-funded prospective epidemiologic studies focusing on the identification and quantitation of environmental and genetic risk factors in the development and severity of asthma in children.
