Dr. Krumholz is the Harold H. Hines, Jr. Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology & Public Health and Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. He is also Director of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Krumholz is a nationally recognized leader in the field of outcomes research. His efforts are focused on determining optimal clinical strategies and identifying opportunities for improvement in the prevention, treatment, and outcome of cardiovascular disease with emphasis on older populations. Using methods of clinical epidemiology and health services research, he has sought to illuminate the balance of risks, benefits and costs of specific clinical approaches. These research efforts are intended to provide critical information to improve the quality of health care, monitor changes over time, and guide decisions about the allocation of scarce health care resources. Since joining the Yale faculty in 1992, Dr. Krumholz’s research has been funded by NHLBI; Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Department of Defense; the RWJ Foundation; John A. Hartford Foundation; Patrick and Catherine Weldon Donaghue Medical Research Foundation; and the American Federation for Aging Research. He has served as primary mentor for more than 50 individuals including fellows in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program, Cardiology training program, and Doris Duke Clinical Research Program as well as numerous junior faculty at Yale and other institutions.
