Dr. Gill's research is directed towards understanding the mechanisms underlying the development of functional decline and disability among community-living older persons and towards developing preventive strategies to forestall the onset and progression of disability among at-risk elders who are frail. Dr. Gill's other research interests include: (1) the epidemiology and prevention of bathing disability; and (2) the epidemiology of frailty and is planning to conduct research in the development and testing of two strategies that aim to restore independent bathing among community-living older persons, and a multi-site clinical trial to prevent mobility disability. He is a receipt of a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health and was elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI). Dr. Gill’s research and mentoring program is currently supported by an NIA Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient- Oriented Research (K24) and two NIA-funded R01s.
