Sankar Ghosh

Sankar Ghosh, PhD
Professor of Immunobiology, Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, And Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology

Mentee:

Christopher Hoimes, DO

Dr. Ghosh’s research is focused on understanding how engagement of receptors of both the innate and adaptive immune system lead to the activation of appropriate cellular responses through the inducible transcription factor, NF-kB. NF-kB plays a critical role in regulating the expression of a large number of genes involved in immune, inflammatory and apoptotic processes.  It regulates the inducible expression of many cytokines, chemokines, adhesion molecules, acute phase proteins and anti-microbial peptides, playing a central, evolutionarily conserved role in coordinating immune and inflammatory responses. Dr. Ghosh received the Ranbaxy Research Award in basic research for the year 2005, which is given by the Ranbaxy Science Foundation, a non-profit organization established by Ranbaxy Laboratories, India’s largest pharmaceutical company. He was recently named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
