Daniel DiMaio, MD, PhD
Waldemar Von Zedtwitz Professor and Vice Chairman of Genetics Scientific Professor of Therapeutic Radiology

Mentee:

Shuangge (Steve) Ma

Dr. Danel DiMaio is interested in cell proliferation and cancer, particularly proteins from the papillomaviruses, which are an important cause of human cancer. As well as studying the role of papillomavirus proteins in carcinogenesis, he is using the viral proteins as models to develop new approaches to modulate cell behavior. Dr. DiMaio hope’s that these studies will provide important new insights into carcinogensis and cell growth control and suggest new approaches for treating cancer and other diseases. Dr. DiMaio has had approximately 20 PhD and MD/PhD students in his laboratory, and a similar number of postdoctoral fellows. He has been the Program Director of two predoctoral and one postdoctoral NIH-supported training program and served as Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Genetics. In 2001, he received the annual award from the Yale University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as the outstanding mentor in the natural sciences.
