Judy Cho

Judy H. Cho, MD
Associate Professor of Internal Medicine (Digestive Diseases) and Genetics Director, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Mentee:

Shuangge (Steve) Ma

Judy H. Cho’s clinical research is in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) while laboratory research centers around identifying genetic variation that affects susceptibility to and expression of IBD. Her laboratory identified that amino acid changes in the Nod2 (CARD15) gene markedly increases susceptibility to Crohn's disease (CD). However, the Nod2 associations do not account for all of the genetic risk in IBD, and so a major focus of research interest is the identification of additional genetic variation contributing to these disorders. Dr. Cho serves as principal investigator of the Data Coordinating Center and chair of the Steering Committee of the IBD Genetics Consortium of the NIH/NIDDK (National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases). Dr. Cho has served as the primary mentor to numerous students including postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty.
